Plants 10 – 40 cm tall, green becoming reddish.

Leaves ovate-lanceolate to elliptic to oblanceolate, acuminate, 1 – 2.5 x 0.4 – 1 cm.

Inflorescences racemes or spikes or narrow thyrses, 2 – 15 x 1.2 – 2 cm, with 5 – 25 commonly 1-flowered branches.

Flowers : Sepals acute to acuminate, corolla buffy or dull yellow, often marked with red.
